Upstate, NY Services
* In Your Home Training *
All dogs benefit from my training no matter which option you choose. Some dogs especially those with dominance issues would benefit greatly from in your home training. That way the dog is in his/her territory. I have different package options for this. Typically 2 sessions or 5 sessions. Most dogs do not need any more than 5 sessions. I don't believe in wasting your time or money. I analyze your situation and tell you my opinion of how many sessions it will most likely require. A lot of the time I will tell my clients to start with 2 sessions and if you feel you need more, you can later add it on to the full 5 and just subtract the difference in price.
**Free phone consultations. I do my best to evaluate your situation over the phone based on your descriptions and answers to my questions. Then I quote you my prices to each option.
**Free at my home consultations. Clients are welcome to bring their dogs to my home to be evaluated for free and meet with me in person. There we can decide your best option as well.
In home training covers every possible problem. From housebreaking, heel, sit, automatic sit, stay, down, come, NO, okay, no jumping, chewing, biting, nipping, resource guarding, dog on dog aggression, seperation anxiety, counter surfing (off), fear, fear biting, marking, excessive barking, etc, etc.
I feel it is necessary for a dog to understand obedience commands that way you can apply them in your everyday life. I do not teach the dog a command for no reason. Some trainers especially in obedience classes focus on teaching the command but fail to mention where or how you should use this command. The whole purpose for these commands is so the overall behavior of your dog will be better. The behavior of your dog will not improve if you only have him sit or stay to get a treat for example. I teach you to use it in whichever situation calls for it. Maybe while your eating to stop your dog from begging, or when you have company over so the dog doesn't jump all over them. If you didn't see it on my homepage I do not focus on one method of training, it all goes by the temperament of your dog! No one training method should be used for all dogs. Every dog is different!
**Training is payed by sessions not an hourly rate! Every dog is different and because of that lessons are typically one hour to one hour and a half. However I stay for as long as it takes. I set a goal for that day and I stay until it is accomplished.
* In My Home Training *
Maybe you live too far from my areas that I go to? Or maybe after our free phone consultation we realized that there just isn't enough distractions where you live, or your dog really needs socialization? Clients are more than welcome to come to my home for the one on one training. It is basically the same as the in your home training listed above. The only difference is it will not be your dogs territory. I will tell you if this matters or not based on my evaluation. The same problems and obedience commands will be covered as listed above.
**just a reminder I offer free over the phone consultations as well as free at my home consultations. No training will take place but I will be happy to take a look at the dog in person before you decide which would be your best options.
**Same as the in your home training, you stay until I feel confident that we did everything we could for that days goal. No hourly rates!
* Boarding and Training *
One on one training with the owner is usually best. However sometimes there are a few problems that the dog would do better without the owners presence for rehabilitation. Or maybe you just don't have the time to train the dog yourself and it would be easier for you if the dog already knew everything. Don't think this means your off the hook, every dog needs consistency from the owner. I just mean that I can devote the time to teaching your dog all the things it needs to know and making it so your dog is better behaved and reliable. See, when we do the one on one training I teach the dog the command but it is up to you to practice everyday in order to make the dog become reliable with his/her commands. By doing the boarding and training I am the one making the dog reliable and you just need to continue to follow through at home but your dog already knows exactly what is expected once you give him the que.
Depending on your needs and the needs of your dogs will help decide how long I will need to keep the dog with me. If it is something as simple as housebreaking a puppy then one week may be sufficient. If you want the full obedience package with all commands learned then I may need to keep him/her for 3 weeks. The same free phone consultation will be offered and/or the at my home free consultation to help decide your best option.
*the time spent with me for training also included daily walks, excercise, play, socialization and swimming!
* Group Classes *
Group classes work well for puppies. They are a nice place to socialize and it creates plenty of distractions to work with. Older dogs can benefit from a group class as well. Group classes are mainly for basic obedience. By that I mean, no dogs with aggression issues or major fearful issues belong in a group setting. It is too overwhelming for them and takes away from time that everyone equally payed for. If your dog has any aggression towards dogs or people I will be happy to handle that with in home training. Please do not try to put them in a group setting.
Group classes are also good as some extra brushing up after they have already been trained. Maybe we did some in home training already and now you just want to join a group class for some extra socialization or fine tuning. Group classes are a great place to do that.
**One Day Workshops available - 1 - 2 hours long to cover the most important parts of the beginning of obedience training. If there is anything you have a problem with during the class I will be happy to help address it after class as well.
